Dual enrollment gives students the opportunity to be simultaneously enrolled in high school and college courses at the same time. Students that are eligible to participate are those that are enrolled in an accredited Georgia high school or private school or home study program.
And the biggest perk of the program is that it's state-funded for juniors and seniors. They're able to gain college credit while they're in high school, and it really substantially decreases what they end up paying for the cost of a four-year degree.
The thing I like about dual enrollment is it kind of challenged me a little more than my high school classes. And I'm graduating a year early. So ultimately, in the long run without dual enrollment, I wouldn't have been able to do that and been able to cut those costs a little bit.
It's better to put the time that you would have put into AP classes into dual enrollment because then you get A, the college experience. B, you actually get to fully get the credits from the class rather than having to spend money on a test. I was able to shave off about a year and a half of college because I got I believe about 60 some odd credits.
Dual enrollment at Georgia Southern is offered on all three campuses. So here at Armstrong campus, Liberty campus, but then also in Statesboro, as well. And we also have some online offerings for students too.
We are one of the top matriculating schools for dual enrollment students that stay on as freshmen. I think a big part of that is that we try to make the process as seamless as possible for them.
It was basically just sliding into the college experience from high school to college. I 100% recommend dual enrollment because I was able to get a head start on my college career and that allows me to get into my profession a lot faster. It allows me to develop my skills a lot sooner, and it also looks really good on a resume.
