Students benefit from immersive experiences, research experiences, [and] hands-on experiences because that's what they're going to need to do when they're out in their careers.
There's multiple ways to get involved in research projects for me and in a lot of my PR and Communication Studies classes, I've had research opportunities. Also being enrolled in the Honors College, I've also been working on my own thesis I'm examining the role of Instagram as a PR tool.
There is a Research Week that takes place where all the colleges have opportunities for students in those colleges to present their research and then there's a university-wide Research Symposium for all the undergraduate and graduate students.
Another way that students get learning opportunities outside the classroom is through internships. For me, personally, I've had an internship since my freshman year with downtown Statesboro and that internship really allowed me to use my major and just perfect my skills on throughout the years.
Students have the opportunity to travel overseas to study abroad at Georgia Southern has a great relationship with Wexford, Ireland, and has a Learning Center. So students are going to be able to immerse themselves into work in a different culture.
They're going to find themselves meeting people from around the world from different perspectives. They're going to find themselves in need and problem-solve on the fly and to be a strong critical thinker who's experienced a wide variety of situations. It's going to benefit them in the long run in their career.
